Supporting Your Child's Emotional Growth
Help your child navigate life’s challenges with compassionate, evidence-based counselling. Reach out today to learn how we can support their well-being.
Those big emotions that children experience as they navigate life can hugely impact their day-to-day life and they may act out with bad behaviour, disconnect and isolate or find it difficult to complete simple tasks. Perhaps your family dynamics have changed, a new sibling, loss of a grandparent or mum and dad are not getting on. All these things can impact your child’s mental health.
We take time to get to know your child and make sure there is an element of fun involved in child therapy, so they want to engage and feel safe to share their worries in a non-judgemental environment.
Our psychologists work from a developmental and biopsychosocial framework to deliver evidence-based therapy. We develop an understanding of your child’s behaviour and presenting concern within the context of their developmental stage, relationships and environment.
Psychology can be incredibly beneficial for children in various ways. Even if it appears to be a simple problem, having a safe space for your child to express their feelings and emotions can be very beneficial through early intervention and ultimately can increase social, behavioural and emotional awareness.
Child therapy does take time for the child and psychologist to build rapport and for your child to feel safe, generally it is not a problem that can be fixed in one or two sessions but more of an ongoing investment in your child’s mental health and early development years.
Your psychologist will discuss with you which therapeutic approach is recommended and provide guidelines on the length and frequency of appointments required to assist your child. With the right information and an evidence-based framework we can help you feel confident in making the right decisions for your child and your family.
Collaboration with schools and other professionals involved in your child’s care may also form an important part of the therapeutic process.
